2008/11/05 CSEP meeting

Attendees: Yan K., Phil M., Jeremy Z., John Y., Masha L.

  1. Kagan-Jackson Smooth Seismisity models for California:
    • Yan made code changes to read UTC hour adjustment from the file:
      1. Masha made these changes earlier to be able to reproduce forecasts
      2. Masha will compare codes
    • Masha fully automated five-year and one-day model within CSEP:
      1. ZMAP format of Yan's input catalog is used for the model acceptance test - part of nightly CSEP build
      2. Applied scale factors provided by Yan to get magnitude bins for generated forecasts:
        • Used M>=3.95 table for short-term and long-term forecasts

        • Ignoring bins with 3.95<=M<4.95 for long-term forecast

      3. Applied rate conversion from (events per day per km2) to (events per forecast period per degree2):

        • Jeremy reminded about 0.1 cell dimension for California forecasts
    • Nightly crontab scripts on csep-cert were updated to include new forecasts groups:
      1. one-day-models-11.2008:

        • ETAS, STEP, and KJSSOneDayCalifornia models
        • N, L and R tests
      2. five-year-rate-models-11.2008:

        • KJSSFiveYearCalifornia and Triple-S-FiveYearCalifornia models.

        • N, L, R, ROC and MASS tests
    • John updated the web-viewer to display new groups results
    • Working on acceptance test for rate conversions
  2. Upgrade of New Zealand testing center to CSEP V8.10:
    • Matt might have some time on Thursday
    • Remaining tasks:
      1. Danijel will work on GMT script for forecasts maps
      2. Grid shifting - Danijel suggested to use global grid notation
      3. Web-viewer for the results, still to be resolved to use:
        • Stand-alone web page or
        • Introduce as new testing region within existing CSEP results page
  3. Jeremy on CSEP meeting in Italy:

      2. Trac ticket https://intensity.usc.edu/trac/csep/ticket/114

    • Masha sent an e-mail to Max asking if he will submit one-day ETAS model for California:
      1. Have not heard back from Max yet
    • Anna Maria has not responded yet if she will work on resolving an issue for SWPacific testing region:
      1. New csep-devel server reproduces the problem observed on csep-cert
