Minutes from 6 August 2008

2008/08/06 CSEP meeting

Attendees: Phil, John, Masha

  1. Western-Pacific testing regions:
    • Masha is working with Anna Maria on Double Branching model intallation within CSEP:
      1. Installed open-source xml-fortran package used by the model to create XML format forecast

        • Anna Maria provided a patched source code file for the package to be replaced within the distribution: xml-fortran/src/xmlparse.f90
      2. Generated forecast using input catalog and parameter file as provided by Anna Maria, but getting different results:
        • Looking at the code, it seems to be using random number generator
        • Emailed to Anna Maria to confirm
        • If confirmed, will ask Anna Maria to use the same approach we use with Jian's ETAS model: specify through parameter file if random seed to be read from the file, or to be drawn and saved to the file
      3. Writing Python module DBOneYearModel.py to automate model within CSEP
  2. Software development:
    • V8.7.1 release candidate tags/Version_8_7_29 has been running and tested on csep-cert for a week:

      1. Will install it on operational machine Thursday, August 7, 2008
      2. Includes fixes for Trac tickets:
        • #98 Re-processing of the test date doesn't stage existing modifications catalogs
        • #93 Change of CMT web-site directory structure causes extra files being downloaded
        • #97 Reduce disk usage by removing originally downloaded and pre-processed catalogs files
        • #96 Cumulative R-test result plot should switch curves labels
        • #95 Should not scan forecast directory for staged files at construction time
        • #94 Use CSEPStorage functionality to stage archived XML format forecast file if it exists
    • Version 8.10.0 goals:
      1. Double Branching Model for NW and SW Pacific testing regions
      2. Jeremy is working on getting alarm-based testing Java code ready for the CSEP:

    • Postpone integration of QuakePy into CSEP until next release V9.1.0

  3. Hardware:
    • About 900Gb of available disk space on csep-op:
      1. Phil proposed to have a year of data easily accessible on csep-op
      2. John will be removing quarter of yearly data at the time of release to free up disk space
      3. Should have two copies on tapes before data removal from csep-op
  4. Phil pointed out that report for Keck Foundation is due in September
