2009/07/21 CSEP Meeting

  1. CSEP V9.7 release:
    1. Installed on csep-op on Wednesday, July 1, 2009
      • Started scheduled re-processing of California's one-day and RELM forecasts groups due to the ANSS catalog fixes
        1. NFS server crashed on July 15, 2009
        2. Masha re-started re-processing from where it failed
      • New forecasts groups:
        1. California's three-months-alarm-models-V9.7 with EAST model from Peter Shebalin
        2. Global one-day-models-V9.7 with Kagan-Jackson one-day model using CMT catalog
  2. Software development:
    1. Re-implementation of Matlab evaluation tests in Python
      • Phil asked time estimate
      • Masha said may be couple of weeks
      • Forecast preparation routines and storing of results in XML format should be also re-written in Python
    2. Masha ls working on scalar moment magnitude precision for one-line-per-event formatting of CMT catalog:
      • Need to check if existing forecasts models are affected by the change
      • Will validate Yan's global model against fixed catalog
  3. Fabian reported that European testing center is delayed by three months
    • Operations to begin on November 1, 2009
    • No need to intermediate release with fixed N-test before CSEP V9.10.0
    • 17 static models in ForecastML format
    • 3 one-day and 2 three-month models
  4. mini_CSEP distribution
    • Jeremy will create initial list of requirments and will circulate within CSEP development team, later will poll community for requirements
      1. N, L, R, M and S tests written in Python
      2. Conversion routines between XML and Matlab for the forecasts
      3. Plots, maps
    • We should provide list of external package dependencies and links to these package
    • May have an intermediate release when distribution is ready
  5. Jeremy reported on 3-day symposium in China:
    • Need to get funding
    • John Yu provided hardware and licenses estimate cost
    • Phil asked about follow up meeting
      1. They are not available for SCEC meeting
      2. Danijel mentioned CSEP meeting tentatively scheduled for September 24-25, 2009 at USC
      3. May be before AGU meeting
    • Initial models: Jeremy's (TripleS, RI) and Danijel's models
    • Catalog data source is China Network Earthquake Center
      1. Jian did some competeness study
  6. Danijel gave presentation on testing and evaluation at the GEM meeting in Munich
  7. CSEP paper for EScience Conference
    • No updates
  8. Hardware:

      • CSEPWebTest.py is not part of nightly build - some issues connecting to the web server
