2009/08/11 CSEP Meeting

  1. csep-op:
    1. V9.7.0 release:
      • Re-processing of California's one-day and RELM forecasts groups due to the ANSS catalog fixes
        1. No NFS server crashes since July 26, 2009
        2. Hardware replacement is scheduled once re-processing is complete
      • New forecasts groups:
        1. California's three-months-alarm-models-V9.7 with EAST model from Peter Shebalin
          • Forecast with start date of 2009/07/01 is generated
        2. Global one-day-models-V9.7 with Kagan-Jackson one-day model using CMT catalog:
          • Forecasts are being generated and evaluated
  2. Jeremy and Danijel are working on agenda and attendees list for the CSEP meeting at USC on September 24-25, 2009
    • Tran added to SCEC calendar
  3. Software development:
    1. Alvaro Gonzalez contacted Masha that he would like to submit his model into CSEP V9.10.0:
    2. Masha is working on re-implementation of Matlab evaluation tests in Python
      • N-test is finished, all unit and acceptance tests passed last night
      • Had to upgrade SciPy (V0.7.0) and NumPy (V1.3.0) packages on csep-devel and csep-cert
      • Ran into various problems with SciPy and NumPy, posted questions on user groups: some responses, implemented workarounds
      • Working on L-test
      • An estimate to finish evaluation tests in one week
  4. mini_CSEP distribution
    • Jeremy circulated an initial list of requirments within CSEP development team
      • Jeremy will distribute to the community in one week
      • Requirements:
        * convert a ForecastML forecast to MATLAB format
        * convert a MATLAB forecast to ForecastML format
        * generate a plot of the spatial distribution of the forecast (i.e.,
        map-view of the forecast)
        * generate a plot of the magnitude distribution of the forecast (i.e.,
        magnitude versus normalized probability--I have attached an example )
        * execute an L-test (including appropriate plot)
        * execute an M-test (including appropriate plot)
        * execute an N-test (including appropriate plot)
        * execute an R-test (including appropriate plot)
        * execute an S-test (including appropriate plot)
        * Optional: declustering
    • We should provide list of external package dependencies and links to these package
    • Targeted for CSEP V9.10.0
  5. Jeremy reported that latest version of the manuscript for ACES publication is submitted
  6. CSEP paper for EScience Conference
    1. Missed the deadline
  7. SCEC Annual Meeting:
    1. Phil suggested to submit poster abstract for software/system and science
      • Masha will work on software/system abstract
        1. YUM repository
        2. New development
        3. New capabilities
        4. Update to testing regions: groups, models
      • Danijel and Jeremy to author science abstract (RELM results)
  8. Masha will attend SciPy conference at Caltech August 18-21, 2009
  9. CSEP proposal:
    • Jeremy mentioned that Danijel and Dave Jackson are working on proposal
    • Phil asked if there is going to be a focus change for the CSEP
      1. Jeremy mentioned operational EQ prediction for NEPEC and USGS
      2. Retrospective testing
  10. Phil asked about CSEP Drupal status
    • No issues
    • Masha mentioned that editors are not as user-friendly as wiki
  11. Hardware:
    1. Phil asked if there is a storage issue on csep-op:
      • No - 3.9Tb used, 3Tb available
    2. csep-cert
      • CSEPWebTest.py is not part of nightly build - some issues connecting to the web server
